I thought this was a Jehovah's Witness site. Somehow I must have entered the CIA's internal forums. I thought I would get used to the actual stories of the cult behavior. New craziness always pours forth.

I know the basics of the early history. Where can I read more about Knorr, Franz, the emergence of the GB, and what is current?

I feel so alone here...
by Pams girl inthanks to all who helped me escape my imminemt baptism after 6 years of study.
it was a close call.. ive clearly been labelled spirituallly weak, as nobody has called here to say hi or anything and its been 2 monthes now....their divine justice for me i guess.
i did see my study teacher a while back when she dropped off my memorial invite, and that was after a chat, nothing to do with the wbts...seemed like it was an afterthought on her part.. they all know about my problems with agoraphobia and panic.

I had a full, wonderful life and lost everything to illness. It has been decades. When my illness went into remission after a new treatment, I experienced what you are describing. I was not my normal but I was not a basket case, either. For years, I was so embarassed that I became ill that I did not tell anyone what happened. My remission is a miracle. The end of my enforced isolation was just as bad as my illness. When things looked so bleak that they could not get worse. 9/ll happened. I lived in the East Village of Manhattan.
It was a very weird feeling just hanging on. My Witness separation and early college were very similar in feeling. It was hell and painful. I started at ziltch and started to meet people. It was agony to mix and also agony to not mix. Slowly, over time, I've built a decent life. Right now my closest friend is a former high school classmate. I risked my family b/c I am white and she was black during racist times. When I talked about visiting her at college, she told me she would have to refuse to know me if the sisters saw me. It hurt me deeply. Many decades passed. She looked me up through the internet. We have conversations lasting for hours at a time.
I don't know how long you've been away from your friends. An apology goes a long way. Even if they said they were through you with you, I bet they would change their minds. The only way to know is to ask. As for new friends, I started with interests and attended boring meetings. Lots of people have rebuilt lives. Concentration camp survivors lost their entire families and property. They forged new lives after the war.
I predict this will not be easy for you. The abundance of your new life will be worth the price. Maybe you just need to relax a bit and let some time heal your wounds. Twelve Step programs teaching that avoiding pain is a sure way to guarantee pain. This forum should be a valuable aid. You will thank God this happened.

Jewelry advice
by TD inas every married man knows (or should know) anniversaries where the number ends in either zero or five are more special and important than all the others.
your 20th is somehow more special than the 19th) anyhow, i've got one of those "magic number" anniversaries coming up and am thinking about jewelry.
any advice for getting the most bang for your buck?

I buy a lot of schlocky fashion jewelry on QVC. In case my financial situation improves, I've visited Tiffany's, Cartier, Van Clef & Arpels, Harry Winston and Buccellati recently. One thing was clear. Yellow gold is in among the high end jewelry buffs.
I was told it is much better to have a few significant pieces of good quality than a bunch of junk. My window shopping expedition was instructive. Once I saw the quality at the fine stores, I did not want anything less so I am now satisfied with fashion jewelry.
I love Art Deco and Art Nouveau pieces.
It may not be romantic but consider a special card announcing your intention to give her a piece of jewelry. She should pick out what she wants. Maybe you know her type and what she likes. It is so personal. I would go for quality over the big end stuff. Pearls without lustre that could never be legally considered pearls are now ubiquitous. I prefer pearls to diamonds.
An Hermes scarf ($400) also makes a great gift.
Miriam Haskell and Kenneth Jay Lane do interesting fashion pieces.
Unless you have at least a one carat solitare from Tiffany's, Cartier's, etc., it may be a crummy invesment.
Antique compacts, cameos, stuff with character are available through stores that sell vintage. Cartier's and Tiffany's were selling their vintage pieces when I visited them. The old stuff was more impressive than the new. Bottom line is that it is very personal.
I'd like a smaller, token piece with a charitable donation to a cause I like.

TRump will need a true miracle. He could not carry a single block in Manhattan, esp.those with his monster buildings on them.
I saw Obama at the Presidential Press Dinner, joking. He went after Trump with little mercy. The jokes revealed more than a statement of birth.
It is almost spooky what happened to Trump. He is a joke as a person but we've elected jokes in the past. We won't know until the election. Obama could do something very unpopular. Trump might do something heroic.
My gut says Trump is not the least bit interested in being president. First, he would have to live in DC and leave his Manhattan haunts. I must admit that I see a teeny bit of myself in Trump and his status consciousness. Being born to a millionare is no extraordinary feat. His dad was in the business. People prob. did not see it but the cameras did not have a tight focus on Trump during the dinner. Obama's jokes were pointed but fair. Trump was utterly infuriated, his face was all red, he hunched forward with rage. Obama did not need Osama's death.

I was poised to get a court order so my father could not pull me out high school to bag groceries. He died after I went to the principal.
College was my main focus. I overempahsized its powers. College does not remove patterns established during severe abuse or take away the pain of a missed childhood. College does college very well. I had extremely difficult in the beginning adjusting but I did very well. So well that I was awarded a full merit scholarship at the third ranked law school.
I became disabled and did not learn PCs. Now I'm attending community college taking courses. The state pays for most of it. I'm almost sixty and usually the oldest one around. The course has been a struggle. I love the contact with younger people. There are pros and cons to going early and late in life. Older people are so much more focused. 75% of my classmates were not attending a rigorous class, doing homework or making arrangements with him. He is very flexible for a prof. He remarked to me that his evening students are completely different. Our brains aren't fully developed at that age.
I notice a few things about being older. Once I got past early college, I selected courses I liked. And I like doing well. It is funny to be pushed into a high school math state again. Since I have so much experience and have read about my interests for decades, following certain scholars, I am wiser. I am less likely to retain rote information. I had no clue what to do after college. Others were going to law school so I did. Now with there being no difference between an A or an A-, I am less stressed about grades. I can focus on what will help me concretely.
I admire any former Witness who makes reparations to themselves by going to college or pursuing any field to gain expertise. Many fields are cool and pay well but do not need college.

Why a publishing company and not a news channel
by maksym init is interesting to say that the means of communication of god [jehovah ]happens to be varied throughout the ages.
in apostolic times god had eyewitness to proclaim the message.
these faithful men furthered the message by spreading the message by word of mouth coupled with oral tradition.

I love that God only communicates with white people comment. It is almost as funny as advice to string some cheap rosary beads across the doorknob of a local KH to signal your new freedom.
Seriously, I've seen one or two black Jesuses b/c I walked in heavily black neighborhoods. Jesus remains a blue eyed, blonde haired emaciated figure in my mind. He also wears bright, bright white, not even ivory or cream robes. I was quite the counterculture maven in high school. When I purchased a poster of a hippie being bored in church, I hung it on my wall. Years passed and it became a topic of conversation. My mom called it my Jesus poster and I said what Jesus poster. My family had to break the news to me that my hippie was jesus.
He was probably brawny, and definitely Seminitic and not very tall. It freaks me out a bit. We laughed at REmbrand't nativity with the Renaissance Dutch bourgeous family. We all know Jesus' looked like a Renaissance painting. DaVinci. Raphael. Giotto. Duccio. Ah.
There is a lot of truth to the publishing company comments. I always thought it was just a historical manifestation but why do they continue? How cheap is a Facebook page and Twitter account. Would God be less holy if he twittered? We don't want our God to be God but some dated '50s old guy.

I will never forget the first show. It was so shocking! Saturday Night Live was funny but the first time it was on, they did a commercial parody but no one did commercial parodies on TV. It became more and more bizarre. We could not understand what was happening.
All in the Family is on syndication now. I watch it regularly. My JW father and Archie looked like twins. The same hat, black pants and white atheltic socks. Their home looked just like our home. It was reminiscent of Jackie Gleason's the Honeymooners. Ah, the mispronounciations. Now that I am older and I've seen the episode almost as many times as Star Trek, I pay attention to the writing. I always thought Archie was too much a buffoon. One gf's bf thought Archie was a hero. I see that there was a layer that realized that Mike was not perfect. Edith, though, remains a saint.
I recall so many shows. One jarring was when someone came by about violence with Israel or something. It was a comedy but ended up with the man being blown to bits by a car bomb.
Archie's Bunker's Place, I hated.

Attracting the disenfranchised was so clear to me even as a child. Jesus said to include the poor, ill, etc. but he also many Jewish middle class patrons and followers. My father had a personality that he was only happy thumbing his nose at order. There must be a connection.
Pls excuse my ignorance. Knorr and Franz - what was their working relationship. I know their jurisdictions. Why would Knorr cede theological authroity to Franz? Why was it only Franz? Maybe that was the arrangement for Knorr becoming president.
